Wildlife Pond - Thornton in Craven

A substantial wildlife pond designed and constructed to sit naturally within its rural surroundings.

The project combined extensive groundworks with locally sympathetic natural stone walls, an engineered wier, informal pathways, a timber jetty, reclaimed brick seating area and carefully considered planting.

A continuous inlet and outlet supply of harvested rainwater helps maintain a healthy aquatic environment, while varying water depths and planted margins create diverse habitats for a wide range of wildlife.

The pond was lined using a geo-synthetic bentonite clay self-healing membrane, selected to provide a robust and long lasting solution. Natural stonework, aquatic loam soil and clean gravel were then used throughout to soften the engineered construction and create a natural finish sympathetic to it's rural garden surroundings.
